Snowdonia Natural Health Clinic | ACUPUNCTURE FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHO HAS ACUPUNCTURE?
Many people have acupuncture for help with specific symptoms or conditions, and some because they feel generally unwell with no clear diagnosis. Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages including children. It can be used safely and effectively alongside conventional medicine.
WHAT BENEFITS CAN BE EXPECTED?
You should feel a general sense of relaxation, well being, and increased energy. As treatment progresses you should experience relief from pain and an ease from your symptoms.
WHAT DOES IT FEEL LIKE
Acupuncture needles are extremely fine. When the needles are inserted you may experience a sensation of a dull ache or tingling, this will go once the needle is in place. Many clients describe a feeling of deep relaxation after treatment.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED
This very much depends on your condition. Change is usually felt after 5-6 weekly sessions, although occasionally 1 or 2 sessions are all that is required. Some patients with chronic conditions need treatment over several months, but with less frequency.
IS IT SAFE?
Results of 2 independent surveys published in the British journal in 2001 conclude that risk of serious adverse reaction to acupuncture is less than 1 in 10,000, The needles used are single use, sterile and disposable. Responses to treatment can sometimes result in tiredness or mild dizziness and very occasionally minor bruising may occur, However all such reactions are short lived.
WHAT TO WEAR
Loose comfortable clothing if possible.
